DAN KNAUSS
Dan began his diving adventure here in San Diego in 1990 as a YMCA Open Water Diver while serving in the Navy, stationed aboard the USS Tarawa (LHA-1). He enrolled in a dive class offered on the 32nd Street Naval Station and the rest, as they say, is history. In 1992 he completed the US Navy’s 2nd Class Deep Sea Diver School on NAB Coronado Island and served six years as a Navy Deep Sea Diver. Upon leaving the Navy in 1998 he embarked on his career as a recreational diving profession. He completed the PADI Instructor Development Course and immediately began teaching at a local shop Virginia Beach, VA.
In 20 years of diving, Dan has worked as a Navy Diver, Commercial Diver, owned a small diving service business in Virginia, worked in dive retail, dive mastered boats and taught recreational SCUBA. He has splashed in a wide spectrum of environments all over the world. He has submerged in everything from the dark, brackish waters of the Cooper River in South Carolina looking for shark’s teeth to the aquarium like waters of the Red Sea. But some of the greatest memories are those that involve people. Dan says, “One of the greatest things about being a Scuba Instructor is sharing in the excitement people have as they enter the fascinating underwater realm for the first time, it never gets old or dull seeing that”.
When he is not in the water, he wishes he was. But to keep himself occupied between dives he operates a small scuba repair facility, pursues public speaking engagements and hangs out with his beautiful wife, Hope.
Dan is a PADI IDC Staff Instructor, EFR Instructor and all around good guy.
